Site Updates Abound

Sorry for the mess. I've had to update some things in the background that messed up some newer things I had cooking up-front. Bummer. For now, I had to take some stuff down as I don't have time before the weekend to fix it up.

Either way, you'll have access to the spiffy new Random Game Finder at the bottom of every page now. It's really slick: Just control-click on as many game categories as you'd like and either set it to ignore ("is none of") or include ("is one of") those categories in a random game generator that pulls up six games to try!! Quick way to see a random batch of games in a category... or if you want to completely avoid a couple categories and get just the genre you're interested in.

Anyway, this is a glimpse into what I'm hoping will make a big change in the site soon, but it's a lot of work, so I'm not sure when "soon" is! :P

Have fun! (And thanks a bunch for visiting!)

Game Leaderboards Now Working!!(!!!)

Ohhhhh yeah...

This is HUGE news, as far as I'm concerned. I've finally gotten the initial kinks worked out of the Leaderboard system! Seriously cool. As with everything on the site at this time, consider this a "BETA" feature & please let me know if there are problems or if you don't think it's working right.

This means there are now a ton of supported games in the system that will allow you to save high scores! (Dang, I can't stop throwing down !'s all over, which is annoying, but I can't help it!)

!!!

Not every game supports the leaderboards, so I'm working on a visual cue about whether a game tracks scores or not. I also think it would be nice to just have a separate page to load up just the games where scores are tracked, for those of you who really want to focus on getting onto high score boards.

For now, the only place you can see these 'boards is when you're inside the games that support them. I'm working on getting the data pulled out and onto other places on the site, but for now, this is a big deal and wasn't easy... and a LONG time coming!

User Points System Activated!

Well, here goes... consider this "beta" for now, for sure:

I've turned on the User Points system! That means you can earn points when you're logged in and do various point-rewarding things! Yay.

For now, the only ways to earn points are as follows:

  • Rating games -- look for the newly-enabled rating block on the game pages. Click the star that signifies what rating you think the game deserves. DON'T SPAM THIS, please. I have no problem with you voting on a ton of games... IF you're really playing the games and rating them intentionally and critically. If you just randomly open games and vote, not having played them... well, that will suck. It's not good for making sure the ratings are valid. If this system gets abused, I'll be turning off the points here.. and that would also suck.
    (limit = 10 ratings/votes per day)
  • Posting Comments -- Comments posted by registered users will reward points... again, don't bother abusing this or you'll just get your account deleted. Thanks.
  • Successful Invites of New Members! -- This is a good one... log in to your account (of course) and look for the "Invite a Friend" link in your user menu. When/if someone you invite registers, you'll get a gob of points! Don't use this to spam, please. I can see how many invites get sent out and if I get complaints... ban-o-rama!
  • (Other stuff coming later)

So, please participate and let's see some points rack up! AGAIN though, please don't be spammy! If you don't have anything worth commenting about, just don't bother. It will be easy to see point-hogs by tons of "First!!!1!!!" comment posts all over the place. Just don't do it, 'cause it makes you look like the Troll that you are! (Well, not "you".. I mean people who do that kind of thing are Trolls... you aren't going to do that, are you?? o.O )

I think I'll be doing something like "Seasons" where points are reset at the beginning of each season.. that way, new players will get a chance to compete on occasion. Hopefully that doesn't irritate too many people, but I think it will be a good way to keep the sites fresh and keep new players interested.

Enough typing.

Thanks for visiting!! Now sign up, log in, invite your friends and get playing!! :)

Free Online Casino Game BETA Site

A new site in the network is live! Casino Game Post is where we're collecting the various free online casino & card games. The site's still very new, but there is a decent list of the games available so far. There will be more coming soon.

Thanks for visiting and be sure to check out www.CasinoGamePost.com.

As usual, your existing account for any of the Bragfile.com Network of sites will work, so if you have an account already, just go to www.casinogamepost.com and log right in! Some of our sites include:

Bookmark System Ready To Test!

One of the biggest requests (by me, too) we've gotten by players is to be able to save bookmarks of favorite games... well, now you can! Woot!!

When you're browsing around playing our free online games and you find a game you dig, you can now hit the "Bookmark this" link right below the game and we'll add it to your personal bookmark list! No, not your web browser's bookmarks, right into your user account!

Of course, you may have figured out by now that you'll need a free member account to save these bookmarks, but that's no biggie. You can sign up right now.

Once you have an account, you'll see a link to "My Bookmarks" in your user menu after you log in. Click that puppy and behold your personal game bookmark list! Killer.

More great features (and reasons to sign up) coming soon! Thanks for playing and bring more friends!

Ugh... Major Bug Fixed, Part 2!

Holy cow, I did it again! There's a quirk in a module setting I was using that had the wonderful side effect of resetting a bunch of site permissions for anonymous visitors. Yay!

So, like last time this happened, anonymous visitors to our sites weren't seeing any thumbnail images or games. GAH!!!

Well, it appears fixed from my testing. Please, people, if you see major issues like that, just take a minute to drop me a note so I can address the problem. Thanks!

OK, so you can play games again if you don't have an account. Seriously sorry about this. I think I figured out how this happened and it shouldn't happen any more.

Please go play now!!
*sigh*

Digging the new theme's progress!

Big thanks to the work of Gilarino in designing our new Flash Game Post logo and site graphics! Woot! I'm really jazzed about how this is coming along, but it's not quite done yet. I have been working on getting the core bits converted from his designs into a site theme, and I have more to do. For now, I think it looks nice and is a good stopping point so I can go get some sleep. (Yeah, I do sleep occasionally.)

I really hope you folks like how the site is shaping up! I still want to make a bunch of changes to how the category pages look and add some new games again (the game submissions are piling up while I do this other work!) I'll get into it as fast as I can, since it will really help make the site work better.

Thank you VERY much for dropping by! I sincerely hope you're all having fun and I would really appreciate if you'd keep spreading the word about the site! Actually, if you sign up for a free user account, there's a link to "Invite a Friend" in your user menu! Use that to drop notes to your pals about Flash Game Post.

...actually, soon I hope to be awarding points for users who get new members through Invites! (I'll have to explain that later, since it's not working quite yet. Just wanted to pique your interest. :) Don't worry if you do Invites now though, I'll be sure you get your points later.

Well, I'm done writing this mess -- I sure got sidetracked there for a spell. Whoops!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Cheers!

Ugh... Major Bug Fixed

Holy cow, I messed up a big thing. It turns out I wasn't allowing anonymous visitors to see game thumbnails or, oh... the games themselves! GAH!!

So, anyone who's been visiting hasn't likely been able to actually play the thousands of games I spent all that time adding to the friggin' site!! Sheesh.

Well, thanks to Gilarino for pointing that out for me. I can't believe nobody else chimed in by now, but apparently all my emails of praise were coming from site members. "Ugh," I say.

Go play games now. Hope that's the last of the initial bugs squashed! I have a lot of things I'm adding to the site, so I'll try to test better. :-P

Thanks for visiting!

Old Arcade Archived For A Limited Time

[UPDATE 3/19/09: I've gone ahead and turned off the old site. I need to just let it go, so I've notified all current members of the old site and I'm setting it to "offline". Please accept my apologies if this really irritates you, but I need to let that thing die. Hopefully you will all like the new site and will keep coming back to see how things shape up!]

There has already been a bit of an uproar (a quiet one, but there are some vocal people dropping notes) about how I've abruptly slapped the current site visitors by dropping all the old games. I told you before I'd be working on that in the future. However, I agree it's lame to remove all those without warning, so I've plopped the old stuff into an archive... I think it won't be permanent, since I don't want to manage that old site anymore.

So, if you have a game that you really liked on the old site, hopefully you can find it in the archive. If you have a bookmark, you can update the bookmark by adding in the path "/old-arcade/" after the site domain like this: "...flashgamepost.com/old-arcade/..." and it should bring up the game page.

HERE'S THE DEAL, THOUGH: If you really want to play the game, drop me a line and tell me what the game is! If you don't do that, I won't know what you want to play and I'm not likely to keep it around.

There's some chance I'll import a bunch of those games in here, but to be honest, many of them really suck! Others of them are pissing me off with links out to other sites and such (the current set of games also have links, but the general quality of the games is much improved, so I'm living with most of them for now.) I just have a MUCH better database of free online games here now than the old site had... I really think you'll agree.

At any rate, here's the link to the old arcade. Hopefully I can kill it off soon, but for now, you can stop sending flame mail about it! :P

[mod: link removed. --Hoza]

Have fun... and thanks for all the great email too! :) I'm glad so many people like what's going on, even if the new site is still sparse.

The New Flash Game Post Arrives

Oh boy... anyone who has been coming to the site for a long time will just be rolling their eyes right now. Anyone who is looking for the Flash Game Post from the recent months (late 2008 - early 2009) will be jarred and maybe frustrated with the complete overhaul. Hopefully nobody will be pissed about what's going on here.

Quick version: WELCOME! This is the latest incarnation of the free online game site, FlashGamePost.com! We've moved things around, dumped old content, and added a TON of new stuff!

Longer version: The old system was irritating me and seemed like it was a dead-end. I've decided to roll the FlashGamePost.com community into my other network of sites at www.Bragfile.com. That won't mean much to anyone for now, but suffice to say it will be cool in the long run. For now, it's a mess.

The big reason to be really stoked if you're a game player is that even though the old FGP had over 2,200 games on the site, it was a mess to navigate and the games had the really irritating tendency to pop you out of the game page onto a leaderboard page. That annoyed the crap outta me, anyway. I figured I lost a lot of players because of crappy site functionality like that.

Even though you're losing those games (we'll talk about that another day -- if there's a game you really liked, please let me know about it since I might bring it back!), you're gaining something sick:

The new Flash Game Post has over 6,600 games now!! More will be added every week, too!

Yeah, that's ridiculous... and freakin' great, IMO.

So, I'll add more info later, but for now, you can play some of the games we have now and let me know what you think as the days go on.

(Unfortunately, if you had an account on the old site, I won't be migrating it over. There are way too many spammers and dead accounts in there to worry about. If you really want to play, I figure you won't mind starting up your account here... hope you don't mind.)

More soon...
